The next Apple AirTag will arrive in 2025 with enhanced privacy features.
In this week's Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman mentions that it could be more complicated to extract the speaker from the upcoming AirTag.
Since the introduction of AirTags by Apple a few years ago, this device has become a useful tool for many users. However, concerns related to its misuse have also emerged, including a class-action lawsuit in response to reports of harassment involving these trackers. In this context, reports indicate that Apple is working on privacy enhancements for the next generation of AirTag. According to a prominent analyst, the new version will be more difficult to tamper with.
The second generation of AirTag, which is expected to be available by mid-next year, will feature a design that complicates the removal of the speaker, which could help make the device less susceptible to misuse. Apple has already implemented features to prevent unwanted tracking, such as sound alerts that notify a person of the presence of an unknown AirTag nearby. However, the ease of removing the speaker has posed a problem, as it could allow the tracker to go unnoticed.
In addition to privacy improvements, advancements in range and the integrated wireless chip of the new AirTag are anticipated. In terms of appearance, no significant changes are expected compared to the current model.
