Gemini can detect when a PDF is visible on your phone's screen.
However, it will be necessary to have a Gemini Advanced subscription.
In the most recent update of the Files by Google app, a new feature has been implemented that allows users to invoke Gemini while viewing a PDF file. This provides the ability to ask questions about the document, according to reports. However, access to this feature requires a subscription to Gemini Advanced, as indicated by a source.
If you already have the feature available, invoking Gemini while viewing a PDF in the Files app will display a button that says "Ask about this PDF." By clicking it, you can pose questions about the file, similar to how one would interact with ChatGPT. This context-aware feature was announced by Google during its I/O developer conference in May.
In addition to this new option for PDF files, Gemini offers similar functionalities for web pages and YouTube videos. In the case of applications or file types that do not have Gemini's contextual support, the assistant is limited to answering questions related to the screen, using a screenshot it takes when you select "Ask about this screen."
