Gemini will enhance Google Assistant on smart displays and speakers, and here we explain how it works.

More enriching responses and more.

Gemini and Google Assistant are collaborating to enhance certain devices. According to a recent discovery in the Google app code for Android, it has been revealed that an "enhanced assistant" is on the way, which will offer more comprehensive responses and better understanding of instructions provided by users. This update will also include a new variety of voices to choose from.

Currently, Google is utilizing both assistants, Gemini and Google Assistant. While Google Assistant will continue to operate on smart displays and speakers, Gemini is expected to play a prominent role in new products, such as the Google TV Streamer and the fourth-generation Google Nest thermostat. However, Google Assistant will also continue to operate on older hardware.

The discovered information suggests that Gemini's additional intelligence will soon be integrated into devices where Google Assistant is still in use, such as Nest speakers and displays.

Gemini, which is already available for Android and iOS, represents the future of AI-powered smart assistants at Google. This assistant is included by default in the new Pixel 9 phones and is being rolled out in various Google applications. However, with numerous devices on the market using Google Assistant, including third-party devices, the company will need to continue supporting this older assistant for the foreseeable future.

The transition between both assistants is expected to be seamless for users, who will be able to interact normally, whether by voice or text, receiving appropriate responses regardless of which assistant is functioning in the background. Gemini is gradually incorporating support for the tasks that Google Assistant can perform while providing smarter and deeper responses thanks to generative AI, and this capability is expected to reach more smart devices soon.
