A new Vision Pro app mysteriously emerges in the app store.

Could you be accumulating excess inventory?

Apple has quietly launched a new application that suggests a possible opening towards selling the Vision Pro headset through external retailers. The app, called “Vision Pro Demo Fit,” was discovered in the App Store preview by firmware analyst Aaron Perris and features various functionalities to help users find their appropriate size and the necessary accessories for the Vision Pro.

Currently, this device can only be purchased directly through Apple. Customers who do not attend an in-store demonstration must use an iPhone or iPad with Face ID to obtain a "precise fit" when ordering the Vision Pro through the Apple Store website or app.

The Vision Pro Demo Fit app offers a fitting service similar to what Apple already provides, incorporating facial recognition features to determine size, as well as tabs to track demonstration sessions and select lenses, both prescription and non-prescription. According to the description, the app allows “users to measure their face and determine their visual needs to choose the most suitable supplement, the Head Band, and the Optical Inserts, ensuring the best demonstration experience of the Apple Vision Pro.”

If the goal of this application is to facilitate sales through retailers, it could allow Apple to sell the headsets without having to reduce their price of $3,500, leaving other sellers the option to apply their own discounts if they see fit. It has been reported that Apple reduced the production of the Vision Pro twice in 2024 after experiencing demand lower than expected and is possibly considering developing a more affordable headset that would appeal to a broader market.
