Blue Origin will reduce its workforce by approximately 10 percent.

The layoffs could impact around 1,000 workers.

The space company Blue Origin, owned by Jeff Bezos, has announced its intention to lay off approximately 10% of its workforce. Currently, the company has more than 10,000 employees, which suggests that around 1,000 workers could be affected by these adjustments.

In an obtained email, Blue Origin's CEO, David Limp, informed his employees that the rapid growth of the company had generated "more bureaucracy and less focus than we needed." Limp explained that this has led to the need to "streamline our management layers" and reduce the number of employees in areas such as engineering, project management, and also in research and development. He stated that "the composition of our organization must change to ensure that our roles are aligned with executing these priorities."

Last month, Blue Origin successfully launched its New Glenn rocket, which is a direct competitor to SpaceX and is intended to transport satellites and other cargo into space. In his statement, Limp also emphasized plans to carry out landings on the Moon by 2025, as well as to increase the frequency of flights for New Glenn and New Shepard.

"Let me add that I have extreme confidence in the enormous opportunities ahead of us, and I have never been more optimistic about our mission," wrote Limp. "We will continue to invest, innovate, and hire hundreds of positions in areas that will help us meet our goals and better serve our customers. We will be a stronger, more agile, and customer-focused company that consistently meets and exceeds our commitments."
