Rushed Change in State Department's Plan to Acquire Armored Electric Vehicles for $400 Million Instead of Teslas.
The document underwent an overnight change.
Recently, it was reported that the U.S. State Department included an order for armored vehicles from Tesla worth $400 million in its procurement forecast for 2025. However, shortly after this news was published, the department changed the mention of "Armored Tesla (Production Units)" to a more general description that stated "Armored Electric Vehicles."
This document, which was initially revealed in December, was generated during a period when Donald Trump had already been elected president but had not yet taken office. Since then, Elon Musk's office, responsible for government efficiency, has undertaken various actions, such as shutting down federal agencies and initiating "deferred resignation" agreements for thousands of government employees, claiming the purpose was to reduce waste in government.
Although the document did not specify which Tesla model was planned for acquisition, reports suggest the Cybertruck, which features a stainless steel body and Gorilla glass windows. In a response posted on X, Elon Musk expressed his incredulity about the matter, stating, "I'm pretty sure Tesla is not receiving $400 million. At least, no one has mentioned it to me." Additionally, the listing also included a $40 million investment in armored BMW X5 and X7 vehicles, as well as unspecified mentions of "armored sedan" and "armored EV (non-sedan)."
