Your Pixel Tablet could soon receive an update in the form of a VPN.
Users have started reporting the return of the popular service running on the device in the latest beta version.
The latest beta version of Android has brought back Google's VPN service for Pixel Tablet users. This service, which was initially launched in June, had been considered incompatible with this device, but is now pre-installed in the latest version of the Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1.
Pixel Tablet users have confirmed that, after the update, the Google VPN app is available on their devices. Originally, the service was introduced in models like the Google Pixel 7 and newer versions, but Pixel Tablet owners were only able to install it briefly, as compatibility was not guaranteed.
One user who detected VPN functionality on his device is Joe Lenington, who mentioned that the app now works properly after the update. It’s important to note that the tech giant made the decision to discontinue its Google One VPN service on June 20, 2024, citing low usage as the main reason. Subsequently, the VPN service was rebranded to be exclusive to Pixel devices.
Although Google has not made an official statement regarding this nor updated its support page about Google VPN to include the Pixel Tablet, several users have reported that the app is now operational on their devices, according to recent reports.
The update is expected to be fully released in March 2025, so those interested in trying out this new Google VPN tool won't have to wait long. For those who wish to access it earlier, there is an option to join the Android beta program.
