Tinder now allows searching by type of relationship.
From non-monogamy to a "serious" relationship.
Tinder has introduced new features related to the types of relationships its users are seeking and their partnership goals. Right before Valentine's Day, the platform allows users to search for matches based on their interests and expectations. Through the "Explore" page, which takes on an Instagram or TikTok-like design, users can look for others by shared interests, such as those who enjoy nature or prefer a coffee date.
The main innovation is that users can now select a type of relationship they desire, showing profiles of singles in their area who are looking for the same thing. The available options include:
- Serious Dater
- Long-Term Partner
- Short-Term Fun
- Non-Monogamy
- New Friends
To access the "Serious Dater" option, users must complete their biography, include at least four photos, and set their relationship goals within the long-term partner options. According to a company statement, this option is expected to be popular, as a recent study revealed that 41% of singles are looking for someone with marriage potential, 39% are interested in long-term relationships, and 27% are seeking "intentionality."
The study, conducted with 4,000 active users aged 18 to 30 in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, indicates a shift in singles' intentions in their love lives, as they are now more direct about what they want without settling. Additionally, 14% of Tinder users opt for types of relationships classified as non-monogamy (such as ethical non-monogamy, open relationships, and polyamory), and 22% are open to exploring these options, according to internal platform data.
Tinder has confirmed that this new feature will be rolled out globally, allowing users to find the type of relationship they desire more easily.
