The Nothing Phone (3a) receives an update with Snapdragon; the Geekbench list reveals key details of the new model.

The Nothing Phone (3a) has received an update to a Snapdragon processor, and details have appeared on Geekbench.

Last week, rumors began to circulate about a new series of smartphones from Nothing, the London-based tech company known for its distinctive designs. Initially, it was thought that one of these devices would be the highly anticipated Nothing Phone (3). However, as more details emerged, it became clear that the device with the model number A059 is not the Phone (3) after all. In fact, it is the new Nothing Phone (3a), and there seems to be an upgraded version as well, the A059P, which likely refers to the Phone (3a) Plus.

This information came to light after both models, A059 and A059P, appeared in an IMEI database. The Nothing Phone (3a) is expected to be a strong competitor in the mid-range smartphone market, offering a good balance between performance and affordability. A listing on Geekbench revealed that the Phone (3a) will feature the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, representing a significant shift from the previous Phone (2a), which used the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro. The switch to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 indicates that Nothing is focused on improving both performance and energy efficiency, using a processor already known for its reliability and effectiveness.

In addition to the standard Phone (3a) model, there is a possibility that the Phone (3a) Plus will offer slightly improved performance. This model could include a more powerful version of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, giving it a competitive edge with enhanced specifications for those seeking a bit more power without entering the flagship price range.

However, there is a third device that appeared in the IMEI database, identified as model A001. While some hoped it could be the long-anticipated Nothing Phone (3), it is more likely that this device belongs to Nothing's CMF sub-brand, a more affordable line designed to deliver solid phones at a lower price point. This device is likely to be the CMF Phone 2, which will also use the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, ensuring that the budget line does not compromise performance while maintaining an accessible price.

For enthusiasts awaiting the Nothing Phone (3), there is still a wait ahead. The company has confirmed that it will not launch the Phone (3) this year, with plans for a reveal in 2025, likely in the second half of the year. This means that the Phone (3a) series will fill the gap in 2024, offering a solid mid-range option for users who want a premium experience without the premium price. It is expected that all these devices will run on Android 15, incorporating the latest features and updates. If the release schedule follows the pattern of the Phone (2a), we could see the Phone (3a) series launched in the coming months. As Nothing continues to expand its product range, it is clear that the company is making strategic decisions to cater to a broader audience, offering options for budget-conscious buyers and those looking for a solid mid-range device.
