The new update for Sony's PlayStation Portal allows streaming of PS5 games from the cloud.
Stream over 120 games without needing a PS5.
Sony has introduced a new and significant feature in the PlayStation Portal: cloud streaming. At launch, the device only allowed streaming games from your PS5 via Wi-Fi. However, with a new system update that will begin rolling out later today, it will now be possible to stream certain PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog to your PlayStation Portal.
This feature will launch in beta and will be available only to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. According to the information provided, a minimum connection of 7 Mbps is required for streaming in 720p, while 1080p requires a minimum of 13 Mbps.
It is important to note that some features of PlayStation Plus will not be available immediately with cloud streaming on the PlayStation Portal. This includes Game Trials, group voice chat, invitations for selected games, 3D audio, and in-game commerce. Additionally, it will not be possible to stream PS4 or PS3 games, and child accounts will also not have access to this streaming feature.
The beta will be available in several countries, including: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States. It is worth noting that Sony already launched cloud streaming for PS5 consoles last year.
The PlayStation Portal update also includes changes to audio, such as a lower minimum volume level and the option to adjust the settings of a PlayStation Link device from the Portal options.
