The new update for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 includes a mode for PS5 Pro with ray tracing features.
For your beloved PS5 Pro from the neighborhood.
Recently, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 received a surprising update, version 1.004, which introduces full support for the new PlayStation 5 Pro. This update comes at a time when several major PS5 titles are adding compatibility with Sony's new console, including The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, for example.
The developer Insomniac Games has detailed the new graphic modes that this patch brings: Performance Pro and Fidelity Pro. The Performance Pro mode will be the default setting for the PS5 Pro, aiming to achieve 60 fps with the same graphical features as the Fidelity mode on the standard PS5. Additionally, it incorporates PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology and activates all ray tracing features by default, including ray tracing in water and reflections in windows.
For those looking to maximize graphical quality, the Fidelity Pro mode is an alternative that targets 30 fps and adds new ray tracing features, as well as an increase in pedestrian and traffic density. Character hair quality is also improved. This mode allows for different settings adjustments to aim for various refresh rates, with support for variable refresh rate (VRR) displays.
Among the available adjustment options are: RT Key Light Shadows, RT Reflections & Interiors, and RT Ambient Occlusion. The first option, exclusive to the Fidelity Pro mode, uses ray tracing to deliver more realistic shadows at medium and long distances, potentially enhancing wide views of the city. The RT Reflections & Interiors settings can be adjusted to Medium or High, with the High option only accessible in this mode; this affects the resolution of reflections and the interior views of buildings.
Finally, the RT Ambient Occlusion setting can be turned off or set to Medium or High, leveraging ray tracing to enhance ambient occlusion effects, although its visual impact can vary significantly depending on the scene, so it is suggested to turn it off if a simple way to improve performance in Fidelity Pro mode is desired.
Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro are already open at various stores for those interested in purchasing the console at launch.
