The new operating system update from Meta for Quest features a redesign and a training mode.
The v71 update will begin rolling out next week.
Meta is implementing significant changes with the v71 update for its Quest devices, which include a redesign of Meta Horizon OS, the addition of a calendar app, and the ability to use Travel Mode on trains. This update will begin to roll out gradually starting next week.
Regarding the redesign, Meta has mentioned that it is adjusting the appearance and functionality of Horizon OS. The new headsets will use an enhanced light theme by default, although those who prefer dark mode can be assured that it will remain available and their settings will not change automatically. The company has also made various modifications to the appearance of panels, the location of the control bar, the colors of interface elements, and more. Additionally, the settings menu has been revamped and its search function improved.
The new calendar app is presented as a typical calendar and, according to a short video, will allow users to navigate through different days while in virtual reality. This app will integrate with Google and Outlook calendars and will include events from Meta Horizon Worlds that you subscribe to, as well as meetings you are invited to in Meta Horizon Workrooms.
As for Travel Mode, it now allows usage on trains, a feature that Meta introduced in May but was previously only available on airplanes. It is important to note that in Travel Mode, Quest Pro or Touch Plus controllers cannot be used, which may hinder certain games. Therefore, this mode is more suitable for watching movies or TV shows during transit. Meta also warns that travel mode should not be used in cars.
