The GoPro Max 2 faces new delays; its release could be in 2025.
Delay after delay.
The arrival of the GoPro Max 2 has been delayed again, and the device is now expected to be available in 2025. During the recent earnings call, CEO Nicholas Woodman confirmed this new release date, which is disappointing for those hoping to see it before the end of 2024. Throughout this period, GoPro had mentioned in September 2023 that the Max 2 was "in development," and in May 2024, it was suggested that it could be released in the fourth quarter of 2024.
This new delay raises questions, as it was previously indicated that the "development process" was responsible for the holdup, suggesting that the completion of the camera is taking longer than initially planned. The original GoPro Max was introduced in October 2019, meaning it has been over five years since its debut, without a significant update until now.
Comparing with the competition, Insta360 has released four versions of its 360 cameras since the launch of the GoPro Max, with the latest being the Insta360 X4, which has received positive reviews. For GoPro, matching Insta360 presents a considerable challenge, and while many details about the Max 2 have not been revealed, improvements in cooling solutions and video capture quality are anticipated, given that the current model can record up to 5.6k.
Pricing will also be a point of interest, considering that the original model hit the market at a cost of $499.99. Despite the long waits and delays, there is hope that, in the end, the wait will be worthwhile and the new model will exceed expectations.
