The DJI RS4 Mini stabilizer can now automatically follow subjects.
Shortly after introducing subject tracking in its latest smartphone stabilizer, DJI has implemented the same feature in its new lightweight camera stabilizer.
DJI has recently launched its new lightweight camera stabilizer, the RS4 Mini, which includes an intelligent tracking module to keep a human subject in the frame. This new device, designed to be more accessible, incorporates advanced features from the high-end RS4 stabilizers, such as automatic axis locks and fourth-generation stabilization.
The RS4 Mini represents a significant reevaluation of the previous model, the RS3 Mini. Although its weight has slightly increased to 2 pounds (compared to 1.8 pounds), this is due to the inclusion of new functionalities. The stabilizer can support up to 4.4 pounds of payload, allowing it to handle almost all the mirrorless cameras available on the market, as well as many lightweight cinema cameras.
Notable improvements include the addition of automatic axis locks, a feature that was missing in the previous version. The RS4 Mini thus becomes the first DJI stabilizer to use second-generation axis lock technology, allowing the device to be unlocked in just one second. Additionally, it features a third-generation native vertical switch that provides a quicker switching experience than previous models.
Other innovations include Teflon layers and a fine-tuning knob, which facilitate a more precise balance when mounting the camera. A new Responsive mode has also been introduced, enhancing the stabilizer's responsiveness to rapid hand movements.
For solo vloggers, one of the most interesting features is the intelligent tracking module included in the RS4 Mini combo. This small device allows for ActiveTrack use on any phone or camera, keeping the human subject in the frame at a distance of 33 feet. Tracking is easily activated via a trigger or a visual command with an open hand.
The RS4 Mini also features fourth-generation stabilization, achieving superior balance between stabilization force and tactile feel, thereby improving user experience and stability in vertical shots. Other enhancements include a 30% longer battery life, extending its duration to 13 hours, as well as improved charging speeds, a new suitcase-style handle, and a magnetic quick-release mount. This new stabilizer is available for $369 in its basic version or $459 in the Combo package, which includes the intelligent tracking module and the suitcase-style handle.
