The Creature Commandos trailer showcases the DC universe created by Gunn.

The trailer for Creature Commandos gives us a significant glimpse into the DC universe created by James Gunn and surprises with the unexpected appearance of a Batman villain.

Comic book fans are about to explore a new DC universe that doesn't start with the usual heroes like Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman. This time, the opening of the new DC Universe focuses on a peculiar group of monsters known as the Creature Commandos. This project, created and written by James Gunn, aims to connect the stories of films like The Suicide Squad and the Peacemaker series with the future of the universe.

A year after Gunn announced this project, the first official trailer for the animated series has been released, lasting over two minutes. This preview introduces several of the main characters from Creature Commandos, such as The Bride, played by Indira Varma, and Nina Mazursky, played by Zoë Chao, among others. In addition to highlighting its eccentric tone and violent, bloody style, the trailer features a brief appearance of a fan-favorite villain, Clayface.

The series will not only focus on these unique characters but will also see the return of Amanda Waller, once again portrayed by Viola Davis, and Rick Flag Sr., who is the solid leader of the Creature Commandos group and the father of Rick Flag Jr., who was killed in The Suicide Squad. At one point in the trailer, Rick Flag Sr. is shown in a fight with Clayface, suggesting an interesting connection to the Batman universe that could lead to multiple surprises in the series.

Creature Commandos will follow Amanda Waller as she is forced to assemble a new team of non-human beings to carry out secret missions. Among the challenges she will face, it seems she'll encounter several significant villains from the DC universe. Viewers will have to wait until December to learn more about Clayface's role and the adventures of the titular team.

The series is scheduled to debut on December 5 on Max.
