Soon you will be able to enjoy the iconic E3 demo of Halo 2 in celebration of its 20th anniversary.

The iconic Halo 2 demo presented at E3 will be available as a free mod for Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Steam starting November 9.

Microsoft, Xbox, and Halo Studios are commemorating the 20th anniversary of Halo 2 with the release of recreations of some of the game's most iconic maps in Halo Infinite, as well as its demo showcased at E3, a key moment in the franchise's history. The demonstration that Bungie presented at E3 in 2003 not only anticipated the future of Halo but also highlighted the capabilities of the Xbox console, even showcasing gameplay that never made it into the final product.

Brian Jarrard, the community director of Halo, described the reception of the E3 demo as "electric." This showcase was released over a year prior to the game's launch and was executed on a now-defunct engine. Its availability for fans to enjoy was made possible thanks to the collaboration of modders and the active participation of the community, who worked on restoring original files and assets.

The Halo community played a crucial role in retrieving the necessary resources, while a team of modders developed tools to recreate and enhance the demo. Steven Garcia, known in the community as General_101, was vital in this project, contributing a significant amount of work in tool development, script updates, and level design. Other team members, such as Ludus, Neo Te Aika, Sean T, xScruffyDaSasquatchx, and Killzone, took care of the finishing touches to replicate the original experience and fix bugs. Kenneth Peters, the lead writer for the Halo franchise, emphasized that without these contributions, the final result would have simply been the delivery of assets without further development.

The Halo 2 demo presented at E3 in 2003 will be available as a free mod on Steam Workshop for Halo: The Master Chief Collection starting November 9. Additionally, Halo Studios is adding new maps to the Delta Playlist in Halo Infinite, designed to evoke nostalgia among the franchise's passionate followers. These maps are modern recreations of Halo 2's multiplayer environments, rebuilt in Forge, the in-game tool suite, by community creators. Xbox has also made adjustments to the gameplay in the Delta Arena, disabling sprinting and climbing, allowing friendly collisions and higher jumps, all to recreate the original Halo 2 experience.
