Sega became Metacritic's highest-rated publisher in 2024 thanks to the acclaimed Metaphor: ReFantazio and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
Sega surpasses Capcom, the winner of 2023.
Metacritic has released its annual publisher rankings, in which Sega has been crowned the highest-rated publisher of 2024, achieving an impressive total of 325.5 points. This recognition is due to the successful launch of several critically acclaimed titles, most notably Metaphor: ReFantazio and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
Sega has made history by becoming the first publisher to reach the top spot on Metacritic three different times, having previously achieved this distinction in 2016 and 2021. In 2024, their success was solidified by a series of RPG releases that captured the attention of both critics and gamers.
Among the released titles, Metaphor: ReFantazio, developed by Atlus, known for creating the Persona series, stands out. Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance was also included, gaining additional attention with its release on Nintendo Switch, alongside Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Although Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board did not have the same immediate impact as other Sega titles, the company managed to outpace competitors like Sony, which also had an excellent year with the release of Astro Bot, awarded Game of the Year, along with several PC ports.
In the 2023 rankings, Capcom was recognized as the highest-rated publisher, but this year it has fallen to the second position, just a few points behind Sega, despite the successful launch of Dragon's Dogma 2. With the recent success of Monster Hunter Wilds, which has sold over 8 million units in its first week, Capcom may be positioned to improve its ranking next year.
