1Password has introduced a new feature that allows users to tag their entries with physical locations. With this feature, when a user is near a location related to a credential, the corresponding information will be displayed in the mobile app of the password manager. This function, called 'Nearby Items', facilitates quick access to the most relevant information for 1Password customers, eliminating the need to search for the correct details or remember the exact name of an account.
Users can add location information to any new or existing item in their 1Password vault. Additionally, the app has been updated to include a map view that allows users to set and visualize the locations of items. In the announcement introducing this feature, examples such as entry codes for a workplace, health records in medical offices, WiFi access in gyms, and membership data from local stores were mentioned as potential uses for location information.
Privacy and security are essential for a password manager, and 1Password has ensured that users' location coordinates are used only locally and do not leave the device. The Nearby Items functionality is available to 1Password customers starting today.
