Samsung claims that the new glass of the Galaxy S25 Ultra can withstand drops from head height onto concrete.
That is double the height compared to 2023.
Currently, the possibility of cracked screens becoming a problem of the past seems closer than ever. In a remarkable advancement, Samsung has unveiled its latest model, the S25 Ultra, which utilizes a new version of Corning Gorilla Glass, known as Corning Gorilla Armor 2. This new material is designed to withstand drops of up to 2.2 meters (7.2 feet), which significantly surpasses the durability of the Galaxy S23, which was already promised to survive drops from a height of one meter.
It is important to note that neither Samsung nor Corning offers absolute guarantees that devices will survive falls from such heights. The tests were conducted with a testing device that simulates the weight of a phone and was able to withstand the fall in a controlled environment. However, the company has announced that the new material is more effective in preventing damage compared to previous versions.
This advancement is impressive, as damage resistance has increased without sacrificing the scratch resistance of the glass. According to statements from both manufacturers, Gorilla Armor 2 offers over four times the scratch resistance compared to other lithium-aluminosilicate glasses with anti-reflective coatings available on the market.
Additionally, it is reported that this new glass significantly reduces reflections, a positive aspect that was confirmed in tests conducted with last year's Samsung phones. However, it is important to keep in mind that, as with previous versions, the availability of the best glass is only guaranteed in the Ultra model, which starts at a price of $1,299. There are many factors that can contribute to a screen cracking more quickly than expected, such as if the device falls on a sharper surface or if the screen already has any previous scratches.
