I think I’ve discovered the most underrated iPhone feature, and you’ll be surprised to know what it is.
The Ceramic Shield is truly amazing.
I have been labeled clumsy on several occasions, which makes me uncomfortable. While I used to have no issues dropping things, lately I've broken several glasses, torn clothing, and even damaged a surprising number of mobile phones; many of them were test units, but that doesn't change the fact. Despite my tendency to drop high-end phones, I never use cases with these devices. This includes some of the best foldable phones, which are considered the most fragile; nonetheless, I avoid using cases.
This may make me seem reckless, but I enjoy the industrial design of the best phones rather than covering them with unattractive plastic. Additionally, the marketing around the durability of the top Android phones, which incorporate Gorilla Glass, has fueled my indifference towards added protection. However, when a device falls, whether by my own hand or sheer gravity, cracks, chips, or dents appear.
However, this has not been the case with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I have highlighted the durability of titanium in this model, which allows it to withstand various impacts, even though it doesn't develop a patina. But what truly deserves to be celebrated is Apple's Ceramic Shield glass. Initially, I thought it was the company's answer to Corning's Gorilla Glass, but now I realize just how effective it really is.
During about ten months of use, my iPhone 15 Pro Max has endured all sorts of drops. From falling off the couch and hitting the desk to landing on the floor. The most striking example was in August during a visit to Liverpool. I threw the phone onto a hotel bed, and due to the weight of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, it bounced heavily on the duvet, flying into an open bathroom, landing face down on the ceramic floor with a concerning thud. At that moment, I thought, "this is the end of the phone," and I felt grateful to have a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra as a backup.
When I carefully picked it up and turned it over, I was astonished to find that there was no visible damage. I didn’t see any dents or scratches; even the protruding camera was intact. This kind of drop has destroyed other phones in the past, which led me to think that, while I appreciate the action button and the reliability of the camera systems, the Ceramic Shield glass could be my favorite feature of the recent iPhones.
Therefore, if you’re looking for a durable phone that is also stylish, I recommend considering iPhones with Ceramic Shield.
