Reasons why the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the best Pixel phone to buy this year.

I have tried almost all the Pixel 9 phone models of this year, and I can say with complete confidence that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the option you should choose. Let me explain why.

As we approach the end of 2024, it is clear that this year has been exceptional for Google’s Pixel family. The decisions made by the company have been reflected in the launch of the Google Pixel 9 series, considered the most robust to date. I’ve had the opportunity to use almost all of the recent models, with the exception of one, which allows me to share my opinion on which is the best option and why the lack of experience with the fourth model does not affect my conclusion.

My journey with the Pixel 9 phones began with the standard Pixel 9, which I enjoyed quite a bit and rated with a notable 9/10. This score reflects the significant progress that Google has achieved with its devices in 2024. While it could superficially be attributed to its design, what is truly remarkable is the build quality and materials, which make the Pixel 9 feel special. If those aspects weren’t satisfactory, it wouldn’t matter how the phone looks. This year, everything has made sense.

For those looking for a good buy without spending too much, the Pixel 9 is an excellent choice. However, immediately after that, I tried the Pixel 9 Pro model, and although I didn’t review it, I completely agree with the positive 9/10 rating it received. Instead of conducting a review, I focused on experiencing the camera performance, which is the main difference between the Pixel 9 and the Pro. As expected, the camera is impressive, but what really surprised me were the enhanced editing tools offered by Google Photos.

After spending over four weeks with the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, I moved on to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which includes all the design and build improvements mentioned, in a foldable device that is a significant advancement compared to the first Pixel Fold. Although the camera is different in this model, its quality proves to be surprisingly just as good. Unbeknownst to me, I had been moving up the product range, and the last model I used turned out to be the best of all: the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

It became clear that the Pixel 9 Pro XL is the only model I haven't used this year. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything; from the beginning, I knew there was an unnecessary model in this year's lineup. In the end, I confirmed that the Pixel 9 Pro XL doesn’t offer much more than a larger size, and my lack of interest in it only reaffirms my choice for the best phone in the Pixel 9 series. For me, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is undoubtedly the standout model of 2024.

After my reviews, I returned to the Pixel 9 Pro. While I still think it’s excellent, I’ve wished it had a larger screen without sacrificing its compact size, which is very comfortable to carry. Comparing the Pixel 9 Pro with the Pro Fold, there isn’t much difference in weight or thickness, and both have a similar size that allows them to be easily carried in a pocket.

When a larger screen is needed, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold stands out significantly. Its open screen offers an exceptional visual experience, vibrant and very suitable for watching videos or using apps. While I am sure the Pixel 9 Pro XL is also good for these activities, it doesn’t have the same magic that comes with using a foldable phone, which genuinely feels special.

The camera of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold may not have the highest specifications, but in my recent experience in Berlin, I didn’t feel the need to switch to the Pixel 9 Pro. The versatility of its different zoom modes and its natural and appealing color representation make it just as effective in most photographic situations.

When compared to other foldable phone options like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, I can confidently say that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is my choice due to its focus on fun. While the Samsung device feels more productivity-oriented, my daily use is centered around entertainment and personal experience.

I acknowledge that by recommending the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, I am suggesting an investment of $1,800, a significant amount. However, it is important to consider that this device brings together all the good of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro and adds an impressive additional screen with minimal compromise in ergonomics. Google provides software support for many years, meaning upgrading to a new model wouldn’t be necessary for at least three or four years if one is not in a hurry to have the latest.

In conclusion, after trying out other models in the series, I am convinced that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is not only the best in its line but also ranks as one of the best phones that Google has ever released. I hope to have another chance to use it soon.
