Perplexity introduces a native app for Mac.
The AI-focused startup Perplexity has unveiled its own native Mac application today, aiming to compete in the market with other AI applications like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Quora's Poe app.
Perplexity, an AI-focused startup, has announced the launch of its native Mac application, aiming to compete with applications like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Quora's Poe, which aggregates various language models. This application was previously announced, and users were offered the opportunity to sign up for notifications regarding its availability.
The Mac app is free, although there is a subscription option called Perplexity Pro that costs $20 per month or $200 per year. This subscription allows users to perform more than 300 Pro searches, providing more detailed results compared to the free quick search option. Additionally, the Mac version enables access to Perplexity's search through keyboard shortcuts and offers features such as voice mode, file uploads, and voice dictation, which is useful for those who prefer auditory interaction.
With the new application, users can ask follow-up questions and review conversation history thanks to a sidebar. The company also launched iOS and Android apps last year. Recently, it was reported that Perplexity is seeking to raise $500 million in funding that could double its valuation to $8 billion. However, earlier this month, it faced a legal challenge when The New York Times sent it a cease and desist letter accusing it of scraping and plagiarism.
