Nightdive Studios has revived another cult classic for contemporary audiences. Killing Time: Resurrected is an update of the original 1996 version for 3DO and PC. For those unfamiliar, this title stood out in its time by trying to combine full-motion video (FMV) with a first-person shooter, presenting a unique visual experience during the first presidency of Bill Clinton.
Unlike other remasters done by Nightdive, Killing Time: Resurrected is presented as a complete reimagining. This game offers 4K visuals, a 144Hz frame rate cap, and other modern graphical enhancements, such as anti-aliasing. Additionally, the menu art and 2D screens have also been redesigned.
In terms of gameplay, fans will now have access to all the weapons from the 3DO and PC versions, which were exclusive to each platform in the 1990s. Content that was cut from the original game has also been added, including a level set in a swimming pool and a shipwreck.
The 50 FMV sequences have been fully remastered and stand out in this new version. Players can toggle between the original sprites and the updated graphics, adding a nice touch. Nightdive promises "improved environmental texturing, smoother gameplay, and more responsive controls."
Furthermore, loading times between different areas have been completely eliminated, which was a major inconvenience in the '90s. Currently, Killing Time: Resurrected is available for PC through Steam, and during its launch, it is offered at a promotional price of $20 instead of $25.
Nightdive Studios has been releasing a wide range of high-quality remakes and remasterings recently. The company is known for the acclaimed remaster of Star Wars: Dark Forces and the complete reimagining of System Shock. It was recently acquired by Atari.
