Motorola is exploring new dimensions in the design of foldable phones with a recent patent that suggests an innovative and distinctive device. The new generations of foldable phones have evolved considerably from the old flip models. The patent discovered by 91Mobiles is titled “Autonomous Control of Form Factors of a Foldable Mobile Device.” Broadly speaking, it refers to a phone that can adjust the position of its hinge to keep the user centered in the frame, similar to Apple’s Center Stage feature, but this time through hardware components instead of software.
The system that would allow this adjustment involves small motors that regulate the hinge vertically based on the user's proximity. When a person approaches, the camera tilts upwards, and the opposite occurs when they move away. Although the mechanism is not as sophisticated as that of devices like the Echo Show 10, it is impressive for a compact phone. This could be particularly useful during office meetings, where users tend to shift positions, preventing the view from being affected.
It is important to note that although Motorola has registered its patent, there is no confirmation regarding when this concept might materialize. The company has an idea in mind, but it may take one or two years before we see this functional product on the market.
On the other hand, the Motorola Razr 2024 has also been unveiled, set to compete in the market next summer alongside other models like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. Two versions were launched: the standard Motorola Razr 2024 and the Motorola Razr Plus 2024, each with variations in specifications and design. Both models feature wireless charging, albeit with some limitations to consider.
Additionally, Motorola has updated its water resistance technology, improving the ratings from previous models that were IP52. This new Razr 2024 is more attractive than ever, with significant advancements in design and functionality. However, some analysts suggest that it might be wise to wait for the next model, the Razr Plus 2025, as additional improvements are expected to be introduced.
