Instagram users could hide their dislike for comments in the future.
Instagram is experimenting with a 'dislike' button that will allow users to express their disapproval of certain comments anonymously.
Instagram has begun testing a new feature in the comments section that will allow users to express their disapproval of certain comments without anyone else knowing. This option, which appears as a "dislike" button next to the "like" button, was spotted by user @crystalotv on Threads, who shared a screenshot showing this new icon.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, confirmed this test in a Threads post, explaining that the goal is to improve the comment environment on the platform. He noted that this button will not track "dislikes," so neither the comment author nor other users will know who disapproved of a comment. However, comments that receive a high number of "dislikes" may be moved to a less visible position in future updates.
Mosseri explained that the new button provides a private way to signal that a comment is not well received. "I want to be clear: this is a test, there will be no dislike count, and no one will know if you press the button," he said. The idea behind this feature is to promote a friendlier environment in Instagram comments. This initiative has been compared to Discord's Ignore button, which allows users to bypass others without them knowing about this choice.
It is still unknown when this feature will be available to all Instagram users.
