Here’s your first look at The Witcher 4.
¡Sorpresa! se traduce al inglés como "Surprise!"
The recent edition of The Game Awards 2024 surprised attendees by presenting the first look at The Witcher 4. This new title was revealed through an extensive cinematic trailer showcasing Ciri, who takes the lead instead of Geralt, the main character of the previous trilogy. Although details are scarce, CD Projekt Red has indicated that in this installment, "Ciri takes center stage as the protagonist, starting her own journey to become a professional monster hunter." This will be an open-world role-playing game focused on a single player.
The studio mentioned that "the cinematic trailer was pre-rendered in a custom version of Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU." However, it is clarified that the trailer may not necessarily reflect the appearance of the final game.
In the trailer, which lasts almost six minutes, Ciri, the adopted daughter of Geralt of Rivia, is introduced as she takes on a monster-hunting contract in a remote village plagued by a creature demanding human sacrifices. The narrative is presented as a brief, self-contained story within the universe of The Witcher, showcasing Ciri's new skills and tools, such as a chain and advanced magical powers.
The trailer's focus is on Ciri's perspective as an outsider in the village. While the villagers say goodbye to a young girl who will be sacrificed in a ritual, Ciri decides to intervene. Her goal is to eliminate the monster and save the girl, all while facing the prejudices and superstitions of those she seeks to protect. This dilemma leads her to a tough lesson as a monster hunter: recognizing that monsters can manifest in various forms.
CD Projekt Red has long been known to be developing a successor to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which marks the beginning of a new saga for the franchise. In November, the studio revealed that the game, previously known by the code "Polaris," was in the phase of "large-scale production." It is being built with Unreal Engine 5, a shift made after the troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Platforms and release date have yet to be announced.
