Video Game Industry Awards 2024: The Most Notable Trailers and Announcements.
The Game Awards 2024 will celebrate its tenth anniversary and will feature news about Borderlands 4, Hazelight Studios, and other topics.
On December 12 at 7:30 PM ET / 4:30 PM PT, the Game Awards 2024 will kick off, celebrating its tenth edition this year. Many surprises are anticipated to commemorate this anniversary, including the unveiling of Borderlands 4 and a new game from Hazelight Studios, known for its success in 2021 with It Takes Two. Additionally, Hideo Kojima is likely to make an appearance to showcase updates on Death Stranding 2 or his new hybrid game/film project, OD. With 2025 on the horizon, excitement for GTA VI will also begin, potentially with a new trailer that could break records.
One of the most exciting announcements was Capcom's reveal of a sequel to Okami, the beloved action-adventure game released in 2006. Although the name of the game has not been revealed, its original director, Hideki Kamiya, will return to direct it with his new studio, Clovers. Production is set to begin soon, as announced during the event.
The first trailer for Mafia: The Old Country was also showcased, a title set to release in the summer of 2025, exploring the story of a family involved in La Cosa Nostra in Sicily in the early 20th century.
Sega briefly presented a new racing game featuring Sonic: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. In another major announcement, The Last of Us Part II Remastered will arrive on PC on April 3, 2025. Furthermore, the creators of Overcooked revealed Stage Fright, a new cooperative game that will include online and local play when launched.
The Netflix game, Squid Game Unleashed, will be available to all users at its launch on December 17, although only for a limited time. Capcom is also back in action with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, set to release in 2026.
As for Helldivers 2, a significant update focused on vehicles was launched. Meanwhile, the next installment of Virtua Fighter will be developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, known for Yakuza and Like a Dragon, although no release date or platforms have been determined yet.
For its part, Gearbox Software released the first official trailer for Borderlands 4, coming in 2025, offering an action-packed gaming experience full of humor, playable solo or in co-op with up to three friends.
FromSoftware also surprised everyone by revealing Elden Ring Nightreign, a new game in the Elden Ring series presented as a survival experience in a parallel universe. Obsidian showcased a preview of Outer Worlds 2, while Fumito Ueda, creator of Shadow of the Colossus, unveiled a new unnamed project.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, previously a PS5 exclusive, will be available on PC on January 23, promising improvements in graphics and performance. The event kicked off with the reveal of the new game The Witcher 4, where Ciri will be the protagonist in an open-world setting.
The new game from Sloclap diverges from its previous titles, being a 5v5 football game called Rematch, which promises a focus on skill-based gameplay. Finally, the classic franchise Pac-Man will receive a dark reboot, while Mega Crit presented the official trailer for Slay the Spire 2, which will launch in early access in 2025, and Dotemu is embarking on a new pixelated installment of Ninja Gaiden set to release next summer.
