Google allows you to manage all your old Nest cameras from the Home app.
Google Home is becoming even more functional.
Google has begun integrating the Nest Cam IQ cameras, both indoor and outdoor, into the Google Home app after launching them in 2017. This means that it is now possible to manage all Nest cameras, starting from those released in 2015, directly from the Home app instead of relying on the Nest app.
Over the past year, the company has been working to simplify the integration of Nest cameras into the Google Home ecosystem. By transferring the Nest Cam IQ cameras to this app, users will be able to review video history in event views and timelines, access camera settings, and perform other tasks without having to switch between the two apps. Additionally, the Google Home app will allow users to view live streams from the cameras in the favorites tab and set up automations.
Interested users can join the public preview directly in the Home app or on Google's website. Those already enrolled in this preview will receive notifications in both apps with instructions on how to transfer their cameras. This access will begin to be available this week. If at any point users wish to revert the transfer of the Nest Cam IQ cameras back to the Nest app, they will also be able to do so.
Moreover, managing Nest Hub Max devices is also possible from the Home app for those signed up for the public preview. However, unlike the Nest Cam IQ cameras, it is not possible to return these devices to the Nest app once they have been transferred.
Previously, Google had already allowed the transfer of cameras such as the first-generation Nest Cam Indoor, the first-generation Nest Cam Outdoor, and the Nest Hello doorbell to the Home app. The company has stated that it will continue to support the Nest app and that the user experience will not change for now. Currently, the only devices that only operate in the Nest app and not in Google Home are the Nest Protect smoke detector and the Nest x Yale lock.
