Donald Trump Takes Credit for Bitcoin's Historic Valuation of $100,000; Internet Users React with Memes
Enthusiasm among cryptocurrency enthusiasts.
Donald Trump has directed a message to the cryptocurrency community through his platform Truth Social, celebrating the recent milestone of Bitcoin reaching $100,000. In his post, the former President of the United States wrote: “Congratulations to the Bitcoiners! You are welcome!” and added that together they would achieve “Make America Great Again.”
During his electoral campaign in September, Trump launched his own cryptocurrency platform called ‘World Liberty Financial.’ In a previous event, he made history by becoming the first U.S. president to pay for food at a bar in New York using Bitcoin. On October 31, in another tweet, he promised to end what he called “Kamala’s war on cryptocurrencies,” stating that “Bitcoin will be made in the USA.”
Trump's post coincided with the moment Bitcoin, which was launched in 2009, achieved its highest valuation to date after being created by the enigmatic Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008. Since then, Bitcoin has become the first decentralized cryptocurrency accepted as legal tender in El Salvador in 2021. Satoshi Nakamoto disappeared in 2010, leaving his one million bitcoin stake in the hands of developer Gavin Andresen, who later founded the Bitcoin Foundation.
Over the past 15 years, the market has seen the rise of numerous other cryptocurrencies, with Ethereum (ETH) and Tether (USDT) being some of the most prominent competitors. Memecoins, such as Dogecoin (DOGE), which has been backed by Elon Musk, have also gained popularity.
Trump’s post generated various reactions among internet users, highlighting the interest and controversy surrounding the crypto world and its intertwining with American politics.
