Onkyo unveils its impressive Icon series of high-fidelity components at CES 2025.
The iconic audio brand Onkyo has undergone a rebranding and today unveiled its new hi-fi component series, called the Icon Series, at CES 2025.
The iconic audio company Onkyo has revealed its product range at CES 2025, marking its return after a rebranding process that started in December. Along with an appealing line of speakers called the Creator Series, the 77-year-old company has introduced three new amplifiers under the Icon Series: the Icon P-80 Network Preamplifier, the M-80 Power Amplifier, and the A-50 Network Integrated Amplifier, all available in the fourth quarter of this year.
These amplifiers are particularly aimed at audiophiles and seek to "deliver powerful and pure sound through modern, exquisitely designed chassis that house advanced technologies for superior audio performance," according to a press release from the fair. While these devices are expected to be showcased at the event, the provided images reflect a sleek design.
Modern audio technology is present throughout the line, highlighting the incorporation of Dirac Live Room Correction in the P-80 and the A-50. Additionally, both feature a new Premium Stereo DAC AK4452, which supports 32-bit/768kHz and is designed to deliver low distortion. Onkyo has also developed proprietary technology called Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry (DIDRC), which enhances and stabilizes the sound quality of analog audio signals, such as those from turntables.
The Icon P-80 is a 2-channel HiFi network preamplifier that offers Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. This model includes Dirac Live Room Correction, although in a limited bandwidth version, and supports frequency correction from 20Hz to 500Hz. It also supports AirPlay 2, Chromecast, and is Roon Ready, facilitating connection with streaming services like Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect.
Meanwhile, the Icon M-80 is a 2-channel Class AB power amplifier capable of delivering up to 200 watts per channel into 4-ohm speakers and 150 watts into 8-ohm speakers. Its design reduces noise and features an aluminum heat sink that minimizes vibrations. Its retro VU meters add a distinctive touch to the sound volume.
Finally, the Icon A-50 is an integrated amplifier that provides 180 watts per channel at 4 ohms and 140 watts at 8 ohms. Like its M-80 sibling, it has the Dirac Live option and offers a high-quality DAC. The A-50 is also compatible with AirPlay 2, Google Cast, and allows the use of various music platforms like Amazon Music and QQ Music. All control is managed through the Onkyo Controller app.
