Death Stranding 2 has a release date, but Hideo Kojima is not ready to announce it yet due to "unforeseen circumstances."
The sequel is still scheduled to be released in 2025.
Hideo Kojima has announced that Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will have an official release date set for 2025. During a recent PlayStation presentation related to the sequel of Death Stranding, the director mentioned that the release date has already been determined, although he could not reveal it at the event due to "unforeseen circumstances."
Kojima explained, "I have not announced the release date today, but it has already been decided, and I am currently working on its preparation." He stated that since it refers to 2025, the launch will take place next year and is expected to be revealed sometime that same year, despite not being able to do so during the presentation.
Death Stranding 2 was announced during The Game Awards 2022 and is scheduled for release on PS5. With the upcoming release of the PS5 Pro, it’s likely that the game will also be available for this mid-generation console, although Kojima Productions has not officially confirmed this detail yet.
This sequel is a direct continuation of the successful 2019 title, which has been rated as one of the best PS4 games. In this installment, the characters Sam 'Porter' Bridges and Fragile will return to star in the story, this time alongside a new cast of Hollywood actors.
Additionally, the director had previously released Death Stranding: Director's Cut in 2021, followed by a PC version in 2022. There is a possibility that On The Beach will be a timed exclusive for PlayStation, which could allow the game to come to PC in the future.
