Apple will allow sharing AirTag locations via a link.

I could help you locate your lost luggage.

Apple has introduced a new feature that allows users to share the location of a lost AirTag with others. This feature, called Item Location Sharing, is part of the recently released public beta of iOS 18.2. For example, you could use this option to share the location of lost luggage with an airline.

By using this tool, users can create a link for Item Location Sharing from the Find My app on devices like iPhone, iPad, or Mac. When sharing the link, the recipient can click on it to access an interactive map displaying the location of the lost item. The page will automatically update as the item moves and will also show a time-stamped log of its last movement.

Once the lost item is recovered, the sharing option will automatically turn off. Additionally, users have the option to manually stop sharing the location of an AirTag at any time, or the link will “automatically expire after seven days.” This functionality is available in “most regions of the world” through the public beta of iOS 18.2. Users who do not have the beta will be able to access the update on their iPhone X or later models “soon.”

Apple has partnered with more than 15 airlines, including Delta, United, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, and Air Canada, so they can receive links to lost items in a “private and secure” manner. Each shared link will be limited to a small group of people, and recipients will need to authenticate themselves to access it, either through their Apple account or their email address associated with the airline. This feature will be available to airlines in the “coming months.”

Additionally, SITA, a baggage tracking solution, will also integrate the Item Location Sharing feature into its baggage tracker.
