Apple has a 90-day deadline to allow direct app installation in Brazil.
Brazil could become the next country to allow the alternative installation of iOS applications.
Apple has been ordered to allow alternative app stores on iOS in Brazil, with a 90-day deadline to comply with this regulation. This requirement comes after an investigation initiated in 2022 following a complaint filed by Mercado Livre, and aligns with similar regulations already being enforced in the European Union due to the Digital Markets Act.
The judge responsible for the decision emphasized that Apple has already adjusted its policies in other countries without causing significant harm to its business model. In Brazil, in November, the company was given a 20-day deadline for developers to offer in-app payment alternatives and to allow the installation of apps from external sources, although this measure was suspended shortly thereafter.
Apple has indicated its intention to appeal the decision, stating that it supports the existence of competitive markets that encourage innovation. A company representative expressed concern about how the proposed interim measures could jeopardize the privacy and security of its users, reiterating its commitment to maintaining user trust.
