Un Al Michaels virtual presentará resúmenes olímpicos en Peacock

No hay forma en que esto pueda salir mal, ¿verdad?

Legendary broadcaster Al Michaels will be providing personalized daily summaries of the Paris Olympics on Peacock, courtesy of an AI-generated version of his voice. This innovative initiative aims to offer a unique sports commentary experience, reminiscent of video game announcers, but focused on real-life Olympic events.

To access this feature, known as "Your Daily Olympic Recap" on the Peacock app, users will need to input their name for a personalized greeting and select up to three preferred sports categories and two types of highlights. Each morning, they will receive a tailored recap led by the virtual Al Michaels.

In order to maintain quality and accuracy, NBC has implemented a thorough review process by a team of editors to ensure that the AI-generated content meets the desired standards. Despite these precautions, the possibility remains for unexpected scenarios where the AI-generated Michaels may misinterpret or misreport certain aspects of the Olympics.

The AI voice was trained using Michaels' previous broadcasts on NBC, and the entire experience was developed internally by NBCUniversal's team. The technology behind this project combines state-of-the-art language models and voice synthesis to create a seamless user experience.

While the demo of the AI voice appeared convincing, the true test will be its ability to generate millions of unique clips during the Olympics across various sports and athlete profiles. Peacock users can expect to access these AI-led recaps from July 27th onwards on supported platforms.

The initial recap edition will showcase highlights from the opening ceremony, with personalized recaps rolling out from July 28th onwards. NBC has not confirmed if the feature will be available on Android devices.
