YouTube will allow the inclusion of AI-generated video clips in Shorts.
Easy AI slop, now available in a brief format.
YouTube has incorporated new generative artificial intelligence features for video creation, which will be available to creators when producing Shorts. The video platform has integrated Google’s Veo 2 video model into its experimental feature called Dream Screen. This update will also allow users to generate standalone video clips that can be added to their Shorts.
The Dream Screen functionality, which was introduced in September 2023, is capable of creating images and videos based on textual descriptions, although previously these could only be used as virtual green screen backgrounds. To access clip generation, users must open the Shorts camera, select the media box, and tap the “Create” option at the top. From there, they can enter text describing what they want to generate, as well as choose the style, lens type, cinematic effect, and video duration.
This new feature will start being available to everyone in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. YouTube has announced plans to expand it to a wider audience in the future. This launch is particularly interesting given that Google’s Veo model is still in early access and is only available through a waiting list. The integration of Veo 2 will enable Dream Screen to generate videos more quickly, with results that are more detailed and realistic regarding real-world physics and human movement. Additionally, the generated footage will be labeled with visual tags and invisible watermarks from SynthID, indicating that the content has been created or modified using artificial intelligence.
