Your next phone could have a 10 km Bluetooth connection.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plus promises innovative connectivity, but there is one detail that needs to be considered.

MediaTek has recently launched the Dimensity 9400 Plus, a new chipset that promises to revolutionize Bluetooth connections by supporting distances of up to 10 kilometers. This advancement marks a significant leap compared to the previous Dimensity 9400, which offered distances of only 1.5 kilometers. However, it's important to clarify that this distance refers to direct connections between phones, meaning that devices like wireless earbuds will not experience a noticeable improvement in their operational range.

MediaTek's website specifies that "the Dimensity 9400+ extends Bluetooth connections between phones up to 10 km in a straight line, increasing the distance by more than 6.6 times compared to the Dimensity 9400." It is noteworthy that a straight line is required to achieve this distance, so in everyday situations, the actual range may be less. Nevertheless, any improvement in connection distance is a benefit and could even lead to fun situations like pranks with AirDrop.

In addition to Bluetooth improvements, the Dimensity 9400 Plus includes enhancements in its CPU and artificial intelligence performance, as well as a 12-core GPU that provides graphics comparable to those of a PC. It also supports speeds of up to 3.73GHz and greater Wi-Fi ranges, including Wi-Fi 7 technology. Although this system-on-chip (SoC) needs to be adopted by device manufacturers for users to enjoy its benefits, the existence of this technology represents a significant advance. The Dimensity 9400 Plus promises to be a serious competitor to the popular Snapdragon 8 Elite and could benefit the next generation of smartphones.
