OnePlus does not explain why its Watch 3 now costs $170 more than promised.

Indeed, it is "Made in China."

The OnePlus Watch 3 is now available for purchase as of today, but its price has experienced a significant increase compared to the previously announced value. Instead of the initially expected price of $329.99, the smartwatch now costs $499, representing a $170 increase or approximately 52 percent.

Several Android-focused blogs have highlighted this price hike, which is unusual since OnePlus has not issued any official statement regarding it. Generally, companies tend to inform the press and their customers about such changes, as an unexpected price increase can lead to negative reactions among consumers. When asked about this change, a representative from OnePlus, Spenser Blank, stated, "We don't have any additional comments to share at this time."

Although OnePlus has not confirmed the reasons behind the increase, it is possible that tariffs imposed by the U.S. government are an influencing factor. Recently, reports have indicated that these tariffs have reached as high as 145 percent on products coming from China. While many tech manufacturers have acknowledged that such fees will affect prices, some have chosen to wait and see how the situation evolves before making adjustments. However, this case stands out as one of the first examples of a smartwatch increasing its price so markedly.

This scenario is unusual, particularly because many manufacturers tried to avoid price hikes by building up inventory before tariffs began, so consumers wouldn't immediately feel the impact on their wallets. Some, like Framework, decided to temporarily pause certain sales in the United States.

The issue for OnePlus may be related to an ironic error that caused a delay in the launch of the OnePlus Watch 3. The device was initially set to debut in February; however, it had to be postponed due to an irreparable typo on the back plate, which had "Meda in China" engraved on it.
