M3GAN Becomes the Most Disturbing Chatbot for Your Phone.
Blumhouse and Meta will present M3GAN in the form of a chatbot on your phone, offering a special one-night screening of the 2023 horror film about the killer doll.
Blumhouse and Meta have announced the launch of Movie Mate, an AI-powered chatbot that will allow viewers to interact with M3GAN during a special screening of the film on April 30, ahead of the release of its sequel, M3GAN 2.0. This initiative aims to break the texting norms typically observed in movie theaters, offering a "second screen" experience.
Attendees will be able to communicate with M3GAN by sending a direct message to the film's official Instagram account (@M3GAN), granting them access to exclusive content, trivia, and behind-the-scenes information as the screening unfolds. This approach is reminiscent of the interactive versions offered by Disney Channel in the 2000s but adapted to a digital format that is viewed on a phone, adding an exciting and unsettling twist at the same time.
Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse, stated that this collaboration with Meta is part of the "Halfway to Halloween" campaign, which will take place at various theaters across the United States following a limited release last year. This year, the campaign extends nationally to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the production company. Blum emphasized that this initiative aims to provide innovative experiences and expressed excitement about giving M3GAN fans a unique interaction in theaters.
For parents of teenagers, it is important to remember that the chatbot is an artificial creation and should not be taken as real, highlighting that it is a marketing strategy for the sequel. M3GAN 2.0 is set to premiere in theaters on June 27.
