Toshiba unveils two new portable hard drives, but it seems there is a big mistake.
Toshiba updates its Canvio product line, although it has a drawback.
Toshiba has introduced its new line of external hard drives, consisting of the Canvio Flex and Canvio Gaming models. The Canvio Flex is designed as a versatile storage solution, while the Canvio Gaming targets gamers looking to expand their storage capacity.
Both devices are 2.5-inch portable units compatible with the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, offering a maximum capacity of up to 4TB. However, the lack of a 6TB model is a disappointing point, as currently only Western Digital offers this higher capacity.
A standout feature of the Canvio Gaming is its "always-on" mode, which allows the drive to be ready to resume quickly, potentially benefiting gameplay. Despite these advancements, both models use the USB Type-A connector, which is unexpected given that USB Type-C has become a modern standard.
Toshiba has not yet provided details on the pricing of these new drives, but has confirmed that they will be available in the first quarter of 2025. Hiroaki Yasui, General Manager of Toshiba's Sales and Marketing Division, mentioned that the Canvio Flex and Canvio Gaming models have proven to be very popular in the market, offering simple and convenient data storage solutions for different user scenarios.
