Exploring Netflix can be entertaining, but eventually, one realizes that they don't subscribe to the service just to enjoy browsing. Each of these titles is relatively short and appeals to different tastes. If your interest lies in intriguing murder stories, we have what you seek. Additionally, the list includes a touch of science fiction and horror, so no matter what you wish to watch, we hope you find something you like. There are also guides on the best new series to watch, the best series on Netflix, as well as on Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Max, and Disney+.
The Midnight Club (2022)
Mike Flanagan has created several successful horror series for Netflix, but The Midnight Club may be the least viewed and most underrated. The plot centers on eight terminally ill teenagers who share a home and gather every night at midnight to tell terrifying stories and seek signs from the afterlife. Although it contains many scary moments, it becomes a reflective meditation on death without sacrificing screen time for its main characters. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely worth watching. It is available on Netflix.
Terminator Zero (2024)
This anime series, set in the Terminator universe, takes place in a completely different part of this franchise, which is very beneficial. The story follows a programmer in 1997 who has been developing a program to compete with Skynet. Just one day before Judgment Day, the programmer discovers that he and his family are being hunted by a killer robot. Additionally, a man from the year 2022 travels back in time to try to save them. This classic formula is enriched with vibrant animation and a Japanese setting, representing a brilliant twist for a franchise that, at least in film, seems to have lost momentum. You can watch Terminator Zero on Netflix.
Ripley (2024)
Although it was released last year, it seems that Ripley did not receive the attention it deserved. The series, starring Andrew Scott in the lead role, is an adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, and it complements the existing film version perfectly. The story follows Ripley, who is recruited to track down the heir of a wealthy man living dangerously in Europe. As he delves into the life of the young rich man, things become complicated and eventually turn violent. Scott shines in his performance, and the series features some of the best black-and-white cinematography of the last decade. You can watch Ripley on Netflix.
