Three Call of Duty games will arrive on Xbox Cloud Gaming at the end of this month.
Microsoft will release Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on Xbox Cloud Gaming on its launch day, October 25. Additionally, Modern Warfare III and the battle royale mode will also be available.
Microsoft has announced that the latest title in the Call of Duty saga will be available on Xbox Cloud Gaming from its launch day. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be streamable for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers starting at 10 AM PT on October 25. On the same date, Modern Warfare III and the popular battle royale mode, Call of Duty: Warzone, will also be coming to the platform. This will be the first time Call of Duty games are accessible through Microsoft's cloud gaming service.
Ashley McKissick, Vice President of Gaming Experiences and Platforms at Xbox, stated in a post that “Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to enjoy Call of Duty in more places than ever, including their consoles, PCs, mobile devices, certain Samsung TVs, Amazon Fire TV, and Meta Quest devices.” This expands the options for playing Black Ops 6 on its launch day.
It is important to note that Ubisoft holds the streaming rights for Activision games after Microsoft reached an agreement in 2023 as part of its acquisition of the creator of Call of Duty. It is speculated that Ubisoft has re-licensed the streaming rights back to Microsoft, which could extend to other cloud platforms.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will feature a full campaign set in the early 1990s. The new installment will include an omnimovement system, allowing players to move more fluidly, sprinting, sliding, and diving in any direction. It will also introduce a mechanic called Supine Prone, which allows players to rotate while lying prone, providing greater freedom of movement and tactical flexibility. The game's maps will span regions in the Middle East, Southern Europe, Russia, and the United States.
On the other hand, Modern Warfare III, released the previous year and already available on Game Pass since July, is considered one of the lowest-rated titles in the franchise. This game is a direct sequel to Modern Warfare II, following a special operations unit tracking the ultranationalist Russian war criminal Vladimir Makaro, who has a plan to unleash World War III. In addition to the single-player campaign, the game includes a multiplayer mode and an open-world Zombies mode, which will arrive just in time for Halloween.
Finally, Call of Duty: Warzone is Activision's response to the popularity of the battle royale genre in 2022. Similar to other titles like Fortnite, players parachute onto a constantly shrinking game map. Featured locations include Urzikstan, Rebirth Island, and Fortune's Keep.
