Threads now allows you to doodle on other users’ posts.
Threads has introduced a new "annotation" tool that allows users to draw on posts they want to reshare, according to Adam Mosseri in an update.
Threads is launching a new feature that allows users to be more creative when remixing other people's posts. The app now includes a tool called "markup," which enables users to annotate the posts they wish to share again, according to Adam Mosseri.
This new markup capability appears in the quote and repost menu. Instead of simply quoting a post, an editing tool opens where users can add highlights, arrows, or doodles on a screenshot of the post. Mosseri explained that this feature is designed "so you can add your creative touch" to posts, although the available tools are quite limited for now. Currently, users can only add yellow highlights or red arrows and drawings, although Mosseri noted that there will be "more options in the future" from Meta.
A representative from Threads confirmed that this feature will operate similarly to quoted posts, meaning the original user will be notified if someone decides to mark their post. Additionally, the "who can reply and quote" setting can be used to disable edits on your own posts.
The app is also officially rolling out two other features that were previously announced: post scheduling and analytics. These features will be especially useful for brands, creators, and others managing a professional presence on the platform, which has so far lacked many of the advanced business-focused tools offered by other Meta platforms. Both functions could also be helpful if Meta decides to introduce advertising on Threads, a move that is reportedly planned for early 2025.
