The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Reveals What the Galaxy S25 Series Should Have Truly Been.

The new slim phone from Samsung was announced in part alongside the Galaxy S25 series, but it is explained why the Galaxy S25 Edge is what the Galaxy S25 should have truly been.

Samsung has unveiled a new model that has captured the attention of its followers: the Galaxy S25 Edge. This update is not about the traditional models like the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, or S25 Ultra, but rather marks the return of the Edge branding in the company’s product line. The essence of this new device evokes the design of the Galaxy S6 Edge and S7 Edge from previous years.

During the Samsung Unpacked presentation, after the event concluded and as the audience began to disperse, the company revealed an unexpected piece of news: the launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge. Unlike the rumors surrounding the Galaxy Ring, this was an official announcement. Although the new phone is thinner than the rest of the S25 series, its inclusion as a separate model suggests it does not belong to the main line.

To understand the Galaxy S25 Edge, it is essential to consider Samsung's motivations. There has been speculation that Apple is developing an iPhone 17 Air, which promises to be the thinnest iPhone to date. In response to this trend, Samsung decided to launch what was initially called the Galaxy S25 Slim, although the final result does not appear to be as revolutionary. While the iPhone 17 Air could be as thin as the iPad Pro M4, the Galaxy S25 Edge offers a slightly sleeker design, albeit not significantly compared to its predecessors.

The Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra models have also been slightly refined, with a thickness reduction of around 0.4 mm, making them lighter compared to previous models. Despite these incremental improvements, most users likely expected something more impactful from the S25 series. The Galaxy S25 Edge, with an approximate thickness of 6 mm, would be 1.2 mm thinner than the standard Galaxy S25, making it a more attractive device in terms of design.

However, the reduction in height also raises questions about durability, battery life, and camera configuration. Although Samsung has not yet confirmed the camera details for the Galaxy S25 Edge, previous rumors suggest it will feature a dual-camera setup, including a 200 MP main sensor and a 50 MP ultrawide. This could make it resemble the Galaxy S25 Ultra but in a thinner format.

Currently, many phones have been increasing in thickness due to the growing demand for better cameras and more robust batteries. However, the market for thinner smartphones still exists, exemplified by models like the Huawei Ascend P6, which stood out for its slimness at the time. Recently, models like the Infinix Hot 50 Pro Plus have emerged with a thickness of 6.8 mm, although they lack the premium specifications expected from a flagship.

On the other hand, the stiffest competition in the thin smartphone segment comes from foldable phones, where slimness is increasingly valued. Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which stands out for its streamlined design against models like the Honor Magic V3. The Galaxy S25 Edge aims to combine the trend toward the lightness and thinness of foldable phones with conventional smartphones, paving the way for a new era in which devices become increasingly thinner. The arrival of this model also marks a crucial moment where competitors such as Honor, Huawei, Oppo, and OnePlus will be closely monitoring how the Galaxy S25 Edge positions itself in the market.
