The new musical status updates on WhatsApp remind me of my days on MySpace and MSN Messenger.

The musical statuses on WhatsApp are a true throwback to the past.

WhatsApp is incorporating a new feature that will allow users to select songs from Instagram's music catalog to share in their status updates. This addition, reminiscent of past social network features like MySpace and MSN Messenger, aims to provide a more creative and emotional way to express feelings without having to verbalize them.

Although it has not been officially launched yet, the feature has been in testing and is already available for some users on the beta version of the app. When this option is activated, a new music icon appears next to the status editing tools. Tapping this icon will open WhatsApp’s music catalog, which is the same as the one available on Instagram. This catalog is extensive and updated regularly, ensuring that users can find a wide variety of songs.

The duration of the music shared will depend on the type of status: in video statuses, the music will play throughout the duration of the clip, while in photo statuses, the limit will be 15 seconds. Similar to Instagram, users will be able to choose a specific part of the song they want others to hear, and they will also be able to access the Instagram profile of the person who shared the song.

Although the exact release date for all users has not been confirmed, availability in beta suggests it could be implemented in the coming weeks.
