A new update for Google Play services, version 25.13, is being rolled out, promising to improve battery life on various devices, including smartphones and smartwatches. This update includes enhancements to system management tools that optimize both connectivity and energy consumption across a range of devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, Android TV, Google TV, and ChromeOS.

One of the standout new features is the ability to add nicknames to Google Wallet cards. This means users will be able to rename their passes, making it easier to identify them by replacing long or confusing names with shorter, more memorable options.

Additionally, improvements have been made to the Google Play Store app. The "Ask" feature now includes video format responses, providing additional assistance for users who have questions about the apps they are considering installing.

Although Google does not specify how much battery life will improve on devices like the Google Pixel 9 or the Google Pixel Watch 3, any optimization in this area will be welcome, with the impact varying between different models. Background updates like this one have been separated from major releases, allowing Google to quickly implement bug fixes and security patches.

Users do not need to take any action to receive this update, as it will be installed automatically. However, it is possible to manually check if it has reached the device through the app settings in Android.

On another note, the next major release, Android 16, is expected to arrive before the new Pixel 10 phones are released, which are slated for August, with rumors suggesting an early launch in June.
