The new Comfy calculator from Casio repositioned its solar panel to enhance aesthetics.
Has design calculators become a trend?
Casio Japan has introduced a new model of solar calculator, the Comfy JT-200T, which stands out for its aesthetic design. The uniqueness of this device is that the solar panel is located at the top edge, keeping it hidden while calculations are being made. This new model will be available in five soft colors that can complement any desk decor: muted white, dark gray, grayish pink, grayish green, and grayish blue. Its launch is scheduled for January 30, 2025, in Japan, with a price of ¥3,850, approximately $25.
The design also features a solar panel that, although it has changed position, does not seem to compromise its ability to capture indoor light and generate power. This panel is slightly angled upwards and is a bit larger than those used in other design-focused calculator models by Casio.
This release is part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the first calculator the company introduced in 1965. However, the Comfy JT-200T bears more resemblance to the brand's first personal calculator, the Casio Mini, which was launched in 1972, as it shares the same key typography.
The case of the calculator is made from a combination of recycled plastic and mica, helping to conceal scratches. Additionally, it includes a retractable stand on the back that raises the device by approximately eight degrees, and it is equipped with a segmented 12-digit LCD screen. Although its functions are basic, the calculator includes specific buttons for tax calculations, which could be appealing for accountants who do not rely entirely on spreadsheets.
