Casio expanded a classic digital watch to design this retro desk clock.
Wake up as if you were in the 80s once again.
Casio Japan has announced the upcoming launch of a new desktop clock that will attract the interest of those who prefer simple digital watches rather than smartwatches. This new model is a large-sized version of the Casio A158W digital watch, which could serve as an excellent alarm clock, although its appealing retro design may be a feature one might not want to hide on the nightstand.
Officially named DQD-851J-8JF, this clock will be available exclusively in Japan starting from October 25, priced at 4,378 yen (approximately $29). This figure is even lower than that of the Casio A158W, as the desktop clock is made of plastic rather than stainless steel.
The desktop clock lacks a stopwatch and a chime that sounds at the top of each hour. However, it incorporates features not found in basic Casio digital watches, such as a thermometer and a humidity sensor. Its display features amber LED lighting, which is more pleasing to the eye in the dark, and includes an alarm function with a snooze option and five sound levels.
It operates on a pair of AA batteries, which should last at least a year. Additionally, the clock includes a fully automatic calendar that displays the day and month above the time. For users in Japan, the clock adjusts automatically using local radio transmissions, but it is not compatible with similar signals in other countries. Those who wish to import it and use it outside of Japan will need to set it manually and make periodic adjustments to maintain accuracy.
Recently, Casio also re-released the A158WA-1 digital watch, which inspired the design of this new desktop clock.
