The decoration of billionaire Nikhil Kamath's rented house sparks debate online: "Pinterest would offer you better options."

There are as many opinions as there are smartphones.

Nikhil Kamath, the CEO of Zerodha and a well-known advocate of the rental lifestyle, has surprised the public by announcing the purchase of a house, which has triggered online criticism. This debate intensified when Rahul Gonsalves, the head of design at PhonePe, shared images of the interiors of Kamath's former rental home in Bengaluru. Gonsalves, commenting on the home’s design, hinted that the entrepreneur could have chosen “much better interior designers and architects.”

The discussion surrounding Kamath's housing has highlighted how opinions diverge regarding the aesthetic quality of his home. Many social media users expressed their dissatisfaction with Kamath's decorating choices. Some comments included critiques of the design, such as, “If that was the design, why so much investment?” Others pointed out that the space could induce migraines for them, while some noted that “Pinterest could offer better options.”

A segment of internet users defended Kamath, arguing that, after all, it is his home and his personal taste. One user commented, “But he likes it, doesn't he? It’s his house.” On the other hand, others mocked those who criticize without having the financial means to access a similar home, suggesting they should focus on their own lives instead of judging.

Despite the criticism, Kamath has not responded to the comments about his decorating decisions, which could be interpreted as an expression of the idea that design is a subjective matter. At the end of the day, what some consider a lack of taste might be appreciated by others.
