Lenovo and Acer Introduce New Portable Gaming Consoles at CES 2025: What About Razer?
I'm sorry, but the Razer Edge is not being considered.
At a recent technology event, several innovations in the field of portable gaming PCs were unveiled. Among the standout devices are the Lenovo Legion Go S and the Acer Nitro Blaze 11, launched during CES 2025. However, many gaming enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting Razer, one of the most iconic brands in the PC gaming scene, to make its entrance into this competitive sector.
Despite exploring different directions in portable gaming hardware in recent years, Razer has surprisingly not revealed or hinted at the possibility of such a device. A reference point is the Razer Edge, which received mixed reviews. Although it features a 6.8-inch AMOLED display and Razer's well-known build quality, its Android operating system makes it resemble more of a gaming tablet for Google Play, rather than a true handheld gaming device.
Many hope that Razer will develop a genuine portable gaming console. Whether it’s a Windows-based system or one that uses SteamOS, the goal is to be able to play a vast library of Steam titles on a device that offers the same premium experience that characterizes the brand's products.
Despite the limitations of the Razer Edge, it is undeniable that it was a high-end device, which is the norm for the brand in its product lines, from the Blade laptops to various peripherals. While there are other options available in the market, such as the Asus ROG Ally, it is certain that a Razer handheld would stand out for its excellent feel.
Following the multiple presentations of portable PCs at CES, an attempt was made to obtain a comment from Razer, but it was confirmed that there are currently no plans to develop its own handheld. The closest alternative is the new PC Remote Play feature in the Razer Nexus app, which allows streaming games from a PC to Android or iOS devices, although this does not fulfill the need for a real portable gaming device.
Nevertheless, the possibility of Razer joining the portable gaming PC trend remains present. The company has shown interest in developing experimental hardware, as seen on its concepts page. The intrigue now revolves around what they might name a potential device, hinting at creative names like Razer Dagger or Stiletto.
