The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD commits to equipping all its models with autonomous capabilities.
BYD has announced that it will integrate autonomous driving in all its models, including the more economical ones.
BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has established itself as a leader in the EV market in its home country, even challenging Tesla. During a company live stream, its founder, Wang Chuanfu, announced that all BYD models will become autonomous vehicles, including more affordable options like the Seagull hatchback, which is priced at $9,600. Wang stated that the company is "starting an era in which autonomous driving will be for everyone" and that autonomous cars "will cease to be an unattainable luxury and become an essential tool."
The company plans to power its vehicles with the internally developed "God's Eye" driving system. Reports indicate that this system uses cameras and radar sensors to carry out functions such as automatic parking, automatic braking, and adaptive cruise control.
Additionally, BYD is joining other local electric vehicle manufacturers, such as Geely, Great Wall Motor, and Leapmotor, to integrate DeepSeek's artificial intelligence into their autonomous driving systems. However, no specific date has been given for the launch of these innovations.
It remains to be seen whether BYD will fulfill its promises to make autonomous driving accessible to a larger number of people. At the same time, Tesla is facing difficulties in rolling out its software in China, so it will be interesting to observe whether BYD can get ahead in this aspect.
